Travertine plaster recreates the layered, porous surface of Roman travertine stone in a mineral coating a few millimetres thick. The effect is architectural: long horizontal strata, soft shadow lines, a facade or feature wall that reads as cut stone — without the weight, the joints or the cost of cladding. PLASTER LAB applies PRATTA Exclusive travertine systems across Bali, Jakarta and Indonesia.
What travertine plaster is
The finish is built from lime-mineral plaster worked with combs and trowels to open the characteristic travertine pores, then dressed back to a flat plane. Done by hand, every wall is unique — which is precisely the point. Being a mineral lime finish, it stays breathable and carries the same natural resistance to mold as the rest of the lime family, so it suits the tropics structurally as well as visually.
Where it works: facades, feature walls, niches
Travertine plaster is at its best on facades and entrance walls, where the strata catch the low sun, on feature walls behind beds and lounges, and in niches and arches where real stone would be impossible to fit. Villa Hudu in Seminyak (250 m² of travertine walls and arch elements) and UnitSpace Villa Modern (280 m² of stone, travertine and niches) show the range — both are on our projects page. Indoors it pairs naturally with lime plaster in adjoining rooms.
Price per m²
As a sculpted, hand-worked finish, travertine plaster is quoted per square metre by project — the pattern depth, wall geometry and volume all matter. Send a photo of the wall and its dimensions on WhatsApp and we reply with a written quote and a sample board: request a quote.
Process and timeline
We survey the substrate, agree the pattern on a physical sample board, then apply base coats and the travertine coat, working the strata while the material is open. Exterior work is scheduled around the weather honestly. Handover includes the technologist's final inspection, warranty documentation and care instructions.
Mold-free guarantee
Travertine plaster is one of our lime mineral coatings and is covered by the official, documented mold-free guarantee — including on exterior walls that face the rainy season head-on.
FAQ
Is travertine plaster suitable for exteriors in the rainy season?
Yes — it is a breathable mineral finish and we have delivered it on exposed exteriors, including Bingin Cottage's 180 m² of natural exterior finishes in Uluwatu. The build-up for facades is specified at the survey.
How close does it look to real travertine stone?
At arm's length the strata read as cut stone; up close you see it is a hand-worked plaster plane — most clients consider that a feature, since there are no joints or cladding anchors. We always agree the look on a physical sample board first.
Can it be tinted?
Yes. The classic palette runs from bone white through sand and grey, pigmented through the material, and we match tones to your stone, timber and concrete at the sampling stage.
How durable is it?
It is a mineral coating: it does not peel like paint and small marks can be locally repaired. We hand over care instructions with every project.
